It is important to identify the signs of a roof in need of repair. Learn how to spot a problem in your home by keeping a close eye on key areas. Fix any issues immediately to prevent costly repairs.
Stains on the ceilings are signs of trapped moisture inside the attic. Watch out for stains on the interior walls caused by leaks outside of the home.
Leaks inside the Attic
After a strong storm passes, check the attic space for any signs of leaks. Check for missing shingles, poorly installed underlayment or deteriorated flashing as these are common causes of leaks.
Deteriorated Sheathing and Siding
Look around the exterior of your house and check for decay on the sheathing and siding. The causes of decay are condensation on interior surfaces. A properly insulated attic can prevent the build-up of moisture.
Peeling or blistering Paint
Take a close look at the paint on the exterior walls of your home. Excessive moisture can cause the exterior paint to blister or peel if there is poor ventilation inside the home.
If your shingles are cracked, curled, broken or missing then this may be a sign that you need a new roof. Replace any stained shingles caused by mold, algae, and fungus.
