Home ownership can be costly and a lot of work.  Sprucing up your home doesn't mean you have to install a new sunroom or splashing out on an infinity pool.  We at Weathertite Systems would like to share some simple tips for beautifying your home without spending a ton of cash.

Add color to your lawn

Colorful plants and annual flats can help your landscape pop and are inexpensive.  Add multiple colors to your lawn or even try a monochromatic landscape based on the color of your home.

Apply fresh mulch

Spruce up your garden beds with a new layer of fresh mulch.  The contrasting color of the mulch and plants makes everything pop.  The best thing about mulch, it's cheap and very easy to apply.  Economy mulch costs around $20 per yard.

Spruce up potted plants

Container plants are an easy way to add color to your lawn and because they are portable you can move them around to different areas in the yard.  Patios and doorways are ideal places for container plants, especially large tropical plants.  There are endless possibilities for enhancing the overall look of your lawn.

Tidy perennial beds

Perennial beds can be located in front of hedges, walls, and fences.  Each year, perennials return to add a splash of color and texture to garden beds and borders.  Tidy up perennials and annual plants such as herbs that don't look good as they should be by replacing it or switching it out with a decorative plant pot.

Landscaping beds and fountains

To enhance the overall look of your garden you could add features to your landscape.  Line the front of your garden or surround a traditional fountain with a beautiful stone wall and lush green plants.  Landscaping with beds and fountains can create an awesome sense of space.

Keep an eye on water features by removing any visible algae, remove any leaves and clean filters.  This will help keep the water running crystal clear.  You can purchase single cinder blocks for $3 each, making this the cheapest option for building a wall.

Shape spindly hedges, shrubs or overgrown trees

Tress, bushes, and shrubs can give life to your yard, but it's important to keep an eye on them before they get overgrown.  Keep your bushes at a nice height, trim down any tree branches leaning over the neighbor's fence and cut away any vines.  It's ok to shape plants, hedges, and trees any time of the year.   To groom your garden, use a decent pair of long clippers or a cordless, rechargeable hedge trimmer for less than $100.

Power-wash hard surfaces.

Restore any stained and grimy paved surfaces with a power washer.  You can rent or buy a power washer for less than $100 to make your surfaces look brand new again, with very little effort.   They are also good for cleaning vinyl and brick siding as well as fences.

Buy garden features

Transform a space by placing a bench next to a flower bed or under a tree.  For a good bargain lookout for a bench at yard sales or an antique shop.  Then spruce it up by sanding down any hard edges and then add a fresh coat of paint.   Birdbaths have a similar effect as a bench when placed next to a tree.  A birdbath can attract a variety of birds and is fun to watch.  You can find a birdbath for less than $40 at many stores.
